Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair 2024
For the past 18 years, the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair has made a name for itself as the premier showcase of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art in Australia. Not only is the annual fair an opportunity to buy artwork ethically from a diverse range of Indigenous-owned art centres, it’s also a great way to support the artists who created them – 100 per cent of all sales go directly to the exhibiting art centres.
This year, the 18th Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair returns to Larrakia Country at the Darwin Convention Centre from August 9 to 11.
With pieces by over 1500 artists across 70 Indigenous-owned art centres from Australia’s most remote desert and coastal regions, artworks include paintings on canvas and bark, works on paper, limited-edition prints, sculptures, carvings, textiles, fashion, and cultural regalia. There’s also an online store for those unable to be there in person.
Visitors can also check out the public program of traditional dance performances, material demonstrations, workshops, children’s activities, artist talks and more. And while you’re in town, head to the DAAF Foundation’s fashion events, including the Country to Couture runway on Tuesday August 6 and the National Indigenous Fashion Awards on Wednesday August 7 in the lead-up to the ticketed opening ceremony on Thursday August 8.
The Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair is free to attend. Find out more and subscribe for updates.
